Meet Isaac Johnson

Empowering Students with Winning Strategies

Based in Bartlett, IL, Isaac Johnson is a dedicated coach with a deep passion for both chess and poker. With 20 years of experience in chess and 8 years in poker, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his students, helping them sharpen their strategies and improve their gameplay.

A strong competitor, Isaac placed 12th in the IHSA chess tournament and holds a USCF rating of 1550, with an impressive 2100 rating on Chess.com. His chess style is highly tactical, favoring sharp and calculated plays, while in poker, he adopts a TAG (tight-aggressive) strategy, balancing patience with well-timed aggression.

Beyond his own competitive success, Isaac has spent four years mentoring hundreds of elementary school students through the Chess Wizards club, fostering young minds and instilling a love for the game. His coaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that both chess and poker offer endless opportunities for learning, financial growth, and connecting with incredible people.

When he’s not coaching or competing, you can find Isaac running, playing soccer, or working out—always pushing himself to stay sharp both mentally and physically.
